I am more convinced than ever that the Learning Commons design is the way to go in space design.
We need as many adults in the space as possible. I love that the History and English teachers' work spaces are connected to our library here as well as the Cognitive Support specialists. Said it before and I'll say it again, I would love to get an IT help desk in place.
The physical library should be the hub of academic activity on campus. That means individual and group activity, tools (books, flexible tables, charging stations...computers with more sophisticated software (with tech support/instruction sharing the space), teaching and student presentation spaces, comfortable reading nooks, and as much variety in seating as possible.
I really want to go visit the NCSU library for inspiration.
Need to take a look at Georgia Tech's shared spaces.
I am encouraged that most of Doug's presentation was things that I am already doing to add value to my community. I can do more, of course, but we're on the right path and that feels pretty awesome.
Little free library in other places on campus with clipboard to check out.
Need to read "Don't make me think" by Steve Krug--great User Experience!!
Am I going to stick with Libguide as library homepage? If so, talk with Marsha about design.
Elective idea: engineering/CS course utilizing DT to solve problems on campus. Maybe work with facilities or houseparents to identify problems that can be tackled. "Imagine, code, create"...DT + Computer Science.
This is very cool! Suggest to Meredith?
Need to create annual reports. Look at resource stats. Are girls using the things that they will need to be proficient in college? Where are our girls going? What is going on in those libraries? Can we integrate with senior year to have them look to college resources on library sites?
